And the hits just keep on coming …
I’m sure that most of you heard about the democratic forum held on LOGO that centered around GLBT issues. I watched it and plan on endorsing a candidate later on in the week. It was a landmark event and I was happy that I was able to devote some time to educate myself on the candidates for 2008.
I’m really apathetic when it comes to politics, but this time around I plan on voting based on more than just my gut. I want to know where each candidate stands on the issues that will affect my every day life. I’m moderate and therefore would vote for either a democrat or a republican as long as I felt they were the right person for the job. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed in the fact that the all of the republican candidates declined to having a forum of their own on LOGO.
Rep. Denni Kucinich was one of six candidates who participated in the forum. He is so evolved for a politician, it’s almost unreal. And while I admire his spirit and am thankful for his support and voice in backing GBLT issues in congress, I know that the odds of him getting the democratic ticket are next to none. I know because of things like this …
CLEVELAND — Someone pitched a beer bottle through Dennis Kucinich’s Presidential campaign headquarters early Friday morning. The building is on Lorain near W. 117th Street.
The incident happened shortly after Kucinich’s forthright statements supporting gay marriage during a Thursday night televised debate on issues relevant to the gay community.
There was no note or phoned threat. Campaign staffers discovered the shattered glass as they arrived for work Friday morning.
They speculated there might be a connection between the vandalism and the Congressman’s pro-gay marriage comments.
The property’s landowner says he heard Kucinich’s statements on television and told his wife, “There goes a window.”
Police are investigating but have no leads or suspects.~ WKYC.com
It’s sad that because this man has enough guts to take a position on gay marriage and back it, others feel the need to lash out at him. This is exactly why other candidates are afraid to take a stand on the issue, they are afraid of the backlash that would most definitely ensue.
Everywhere you look, these kinds of acts that make us feel like second-class citizens are taking place. It’s time for a change. Things like this are just appalling …
The Dallas Morning News-
An Arlington church volunteered to host a funeral Thursday, then reneged on the invitation when it became clear the dead man’s homosexuality would be identified in the service. The event placed High Point Church in the cross hairs of an issue many conservative Christian organizations are discussing: how to take a hard-line theological position on homosexuality while showing compassion toward gay people and their families.
But the dispute between High Point Church and the friends and family of Cecil Sinclair has left confusion and hard feelings on both sides.
Mr. Sinclair, 46, died Monday. He was a native of Fort Worth, a Navy veteran who served in Desert Storm helping rescuers find downed pilots, and a singer in the Turtle Creek Chorale, said his mother, Eva Bowers. He did not belong to a church.
His brother, Lee, is an employee and member of High Point, a nondenominational mega-congregation led by the Rev. Gary Simons. Mr. Simons is the brother-in-law of Joel Osteen, nationally known pastor of Houston’s Lakewood Church.
When Cecil Sinclair became ill with a heart condition six years ago, church members started praying for him out of love for his brother, Mr. Simons said Thursday. And when Mr. Sinclair died of an infection, a side effect of surgery intended to keep him alive long enough for a heart transplant, a member of the church staff was immediately sent to minister to the family, he said.
Both the family and church officials agree that the church volunteered to host a memorial service, feed 100 guests and create a multimedia presentation of photos from Mr. Sinclair’s life.
But the photos that the family selected alerted church officials that there might be a problem with the service, Mr. Simons said. READ MORE

As homosexuals we are used to this kind of treatment. And that’s unfortunate. Seriously, in the words of Tom Cruise (from A Few Good Men), “The hits just keep on coming …”

I watched the entire forum televised on LOGO. I enjoyed listening to Dennis Kucinich. As you said, one must admire his spirit. My other thought was, “Too bad he doesn’t stand a chance.” However, I am happy that he is a candidate and voicing his opinions, even if it means having to replace windows.
