Best lesbian couples on television

by Lyndsey Darcangelo

Here’s a riddle.

What’s suffering from a severely sprained ankle, has a sore throat and is PMSing in the worst way?

Give up?

Me.

That’s right. I’m in the worst mood possible as circumstances in my life have come together to form the “perfect storm.” I feel dark, cloudy and ominous. Lighting is shooting from my nostrils every few seconds. Honest.

Drama aside, I feel as though I need something light and fluffy today to put me in a better mood, to calm the so-called “storm” that has taken over me at the moment. So I’ve put together a fun little post on the best (and most recent) lesbian couples on television. These are ranked in order from 5 to 1, and are based on my personal preference. If you disagree or feel that anybody is missing - feel free to sound off in the comment section below.

Here they are:

#5 Chris & Kris
Kris___Chris.jpgIf you haven’t watch Exes & Ohs yet, check it out. It’s hilarious. Add up all of the lesbian stereotypes you can think of and you’ll be left with Chris and Kris. They dress alike, have pets, run a business together, get into silly fights, say “I love you” waaaaay too much, and are in the process of starting a family through IVF. If a lesbian couple moved next door to me, I’d want them to be just like Chris and Kris for amusements sake.

#4 Bette & Tina
bette_tina.jpgThe L Word’s Bette and Tina were your quintessential lesbian couple (before Bette cheated of course). They were cute, lovable and the epitome of what every lesbian wanted for herself. Unless of course your name is Shane and you have horrible hair. Then it’s a different story. But, due to plot changes and the need to keep the audience interested, Bette and Tina’s relationship deteriorated. It was such an intense and beautiful relationship however, that I’m left wondering if they will somehow piece it back together.

#3 Kate and PatTAR_pat_kate2.jpg

I think that if my girlfriend and I ever went on the Amazing Race … we’d kill one another. So it was easy for me to appreciate the way Kate and Pat, from this season’s Race, seemed to handle the pressure. They sort of dilly-dallied along, enjoyed their surroundings and basically took the opportunity for what it was – an experience of a lifetime to share with one another. They never got caught up in the game and always had an encouraging word to say to each other whether they were doing well or not. Though they didn’t last long in the game, they gave us all something to strive for in our own relationships.

#2 Alice and Tasha
alice.jpgThe L Word is the most watched and most visible lesbian program on television, therefore I was forced to pick yet another couple from the show. I don’t mind. There’s plenty of eye candy to choose from. Of course, I had to weigh other things besides the “hot” factor as I was putting this list together. And though Alice and Tasha are both sexy in their own right, they are incredibly adorable together. Their storyline was my favorite from last season. I hope that the powers that be don’t mess with this relationship. We all know how television drama works though … nothing lasts forever (especially on-screen relationships).

#1 Paige and Alex

Ahhhh. Paige and Alex from Degrassi.

First love. Experimentation. Confusion. Fear. All of it adds up to Palex.

Need I say more?

Willow and Tara! You can’t forget everyone’s favorite lesbian witches!

  2. JC Says:

I second the need for Willow and Tara!

  3. Laura Says:

    I third that!!
I’m also obsessed with Marissa and Alex from The OC, yes I do realize their relationship was almost non-existent but I think Olivia Wilde’s hotness makes up for anything!
