It ain’t nothin’ new
For those anti-gay proponents who speak out about gay marriage and all of its evil, who talk about a new age culture war and the breakdown of family values, I’ve got some news for you …
gay marriage, or at least the concept of a union between two same-sex individuals, has been around for centuries. This isn’t some hair-brained idea we gays have concocted in order to corrupt society. It’s a basic contract that allows us to have the same legal, God-given rights as every other heterosexual couple out there. And it ain’t nothin’ new …
MSNBC ~ Civil unions between male couples existed around 600 years ago in medieval Europe, a historian now says.
Historical evidence, including legal documents and gravesites, can be interpreted as supporting the prevalence of homosexual relationships hundreds of years ago, said Allan Tulchin of Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania.
If accurate, the results indicate socially sanctioned same-sex unions are nothing new, nor were they taboo in the past.
“Western family structures have been much more varied than many people today seem to realize,” Tulchin writes in the September issue of the Journal of Modern History. “And Western legal systems have in the past made provisions for a variety of household structures.” READ MORE from Gay Marriage Goes Way Back
If it’s been done in the past, why can’t it be done now? If it didn’t ruin the sanctity of marriage in the past, why would it do so now? And, if two homosexuals who embarked upon a life together protected under a legal agreement didn’t affect or impact the marriage of two heterosexuals, why would it do so now?
If you have the answers to these questions … let me know. I’d love to hear them. And while you’re at it, I’d also love to hear how Brittney Spears and K-fed are better candidates for marriage than my girlfriend and I are.
