Six months and counting …
Well … I’ve been parked at this web address for six months now. I have to say that of everything I write on a consistent basis (short stories, novels, columns, articles, etc.) this blog is definitely one of my favorite things to write.
I have the space and time to cover and speak on a variety of topics. There’s no censorship. No limits. And that’s one thing I LOVE about 451Press.
I’m going to highlight some of my favorite posts from the past six months. One from each on the category list. If you’ve read them already, read them again. If you haven’t, well … enjoy them for the first time.
Category: Books
This was one of the first posts I wrote. It focused on the top ten list of GLBT books, according to Publishing Triangle. I also talked a little bit about my favorite author.
Settle in with a good gay and lesbian book
Category: Come Out & Play
The Come OUt & Play series is one that I developed because I felt that there wasn’t a lot of information out there for those people who are in the process of coming out. I’ve covered everything from telling your parents and your doctor to coming out on the job and with friends. I’ve also highlighted coming out stories from every day people to celebrities. Here’s a coming out story that is one of my favorites.
Jen Austin’s coming out story
Category: Entertainment
I doubt that there has been a bigger “Oh my God” moment in entertainment regarding homosexuality than the episode in which Ellen kissed Laura Dern on her sitcom. It was not only groundbreaking, it was historic because it happened during prime time.
The kiss seen ’round the world
Category: Gay Marriage
I think that the best post from this category is the one that sums up exactly how I feel on this matter.
My take on this whole gay marriage thing
Category: Human Interest
I’m a sucker for a good human interest story. So, it only seemed right that I developed a catergory on the subject. It’s hard to choose my favorite story from this lot, so here’s one I’d gladly read again.
Speaking of notable lesbians …
Category: News
What’s newsworthy? Well, these days a heck of a lot. Here’s a story that was not only newsworthy, but it got my panties all in a bunch as well.
Here comes the rant
Category: Notable Lesbians
How am I supposed to choose my favorite? Every woman spotlighted in the Notable Lesbians series is special, unqiue and brilliant. But, if I am forced to choose, here’s one that just plain made me smile when writing about her.
Ma Rainey
Category: Personal Reflections
Being a writer, I am more apt to go off on tangents regarding reflections on my personal life. Here’s one tangent I enjoy.
To be or not to be: is homosexuality a choice?
Category: Politics
Truthfully, I hate politics. I don’t enjoy talking politics, and I enjoy writing about politics even less. But because I have to stay abreast on the matter because politics weighs heavily in my future, I end up talking about it any way. Here’s a post on politics that I didn’t mind writing so much.
I might as well run for office
Category: Relationships
I’m not an advice columnist by any means, but if a post or two regarding this subject can help you make heads or tails of your situation than I’m all for it. The following post is advice every lesbian should adhere to.
The U-haul syndrome
Category: Religion
Oh, what a topic! Whenever you pair relgion and homosexuality there’s bound to be a few fireworks. Really, it’s not as big of an oxymoron as some people think. This was one of the first posts that I ever wrote for this blog, and also one of my best.
Homosexuality and the bible
Category: Sports
The biggest story in sports these past six months, as far as women are concerned, was the Pokey Chatman situation. I covered it quite extensively. Here’s the first post I ever wrote about it. For follow up posts on Pokey, explore the rest of the Sports category.
Where in the world is Pokey Chatman?
So there it is. I hope you enjoy these posts and continue to come back for the next six months. I’ll be here, writing away on the many topics mentioned above every day.
gay marriage, glbt books, homosexuality and religion, sports, human interest stories, personal reflections, come out and play
